Welcome to UNSW O-Week 2008!
Starting University can be a scary experience. New people, new places, new teachers, new classes, new routines, new everything! But never fear, O-Week is here! At least, it will be, from March 3-7, and guess what? You're invited!
Get ready for a week of fun, adventure and excitement as you find out all you'll need to know to turn what could be a scary experience into fun and enjoyable experience
During the five days of O-Week you'll get a chance to meet new people, hear from your faculties, attend a myStart workshop, jump on a jumping castle, go on a campus tour, attend your first party at the Roundhouse, find a club or two to get involved with and much, much more.
Before we dive into it all, we should point out that if you have any questions about being a student, O-Week or anything UNSW-related, you can jump across to our forums and our student volunteers (the Yellowshirts) will be able to help!
What is O-Week?
Orientation Week (O-Week for short) is part of Week Zero, the week before Semester 1 classes start - this year, it runs from Monday the 3rd of March to Friday the 7th of March. During this week, new students have an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the university and start getting involved in the life of the university.
Arc@UNSW, the principal student organisation at UNSW, runs a volunteer program during O-Week. The volunteers wear distinctive yellow t-shirts and are on hand to answer any questions new (or old) students have about the university, or to point you in the right direction. After every faculty welcome, Yellowshirts will take students on a tour of the campus to help you find your way around the campus and find some of the important services.
Yellowshirts also organise many fun events during the week, both during the day and evening. In 2007, we ran poker competitions, jumping castles, free fairy floss and a comedy evening, as well as the traditional Thursday night dance party and Friday night gig, featuring Grinspoon. In addition during the day, most of the student clubs and societies set up stalls on the main walkway to attract new members and many also run competitions or demonstrations during the week.
If you have any questions about O-Week or the uni, please jump on to our forums and a Yellowshirt will be able to point you in the right direction. We look forward to seeing you in O-Week!
